I finished my braces treatment in July and decided to take some time to reflect on my experience with Dr. Luu over the past two years.
Unfortunately, my overall experience was disappointing, particularly considering the amount of money and time invested in the treatment.
1. Limited communication and feedback
Appointments were often very quick, and I received very little information about my progress or what was happening throughout the treatment. I frequently had to ask questions myself to get feedback or understand how things were progressing. I would have appreciated more proactive communication and explanations at each stage.
2. Lack of guidance on oral hygiene
I was repeatedly told to brush and floss every day, but I was never shown or advised on more effective ways to clean around the brackets and in the narrow spaces between my teeth. There are specialized interdental brushes and other tools designed specifically for braces, and I would have expected guidance on these, along with proper cleaning techniques.
3. Disappointing final results
The final result was mediocre, in my opinion. My braces were removed in July, and I felt the process was rushed because the treatment was expected to be completed within a predicted timeframe. However, I still have a significant overbite, my molars are angled inward, and one of my lower canines sits noticeably higher than the surrounding teeth. After two years of treatment, I expected a more satisfactory result.
4. Inappropriate and insensitive comments during brace removal
This was particularly upsetting. During the removal of my brackets, Dr. Luu made two comments that I found highly inappropriate and that left me feeling uncomfortable and embarrassed.
I have sensitive teeth due to receding gums, and the removal process was extremely painful for me. Rather than showing empathy or trying to make the experience more comfortable, he complained about how long it was taking to remove the two remaining brackets and commented that he had never seen anyone so uncomfortable as I was.
I understand that orthodontic appointments can be busy and that unexpected delays happen. However, I was a paying patient undergoing a painful procedure, and I deserved to be treated with patience and compassion. I had invested a significant amount of money and time into this treatment, and I expected a more considerate approach, especially from a healthcare professional.
I had doubts about the results from the beginning. When I changed my mind about removing the braces at the initial appointment, I felt pressured by the staff’s tone and warnings that I could not change my mind again. This was unprofessional and made me feel that my concerns were not being taken seriously.
What I appreciated:

We have had such a wonderful experience with this office from day one! My daughter first had braces when she was eight years old for about two years, and then she needed braces again at 11.
Throughout the entire process, the doctor, staff, and receptionists have always been incredibly kind, caring, and attentive. They are always there to answer our questions, respond to emails, and help us reschedule appointments when needed.
It is such a great feeling to know that every visit is a positive experience. Most importantly, the results have been amazing so far! We are so grateful for the beautiful smile they have helped create for our daughter.

I finished my braces treatment with First Impression Orthodontics two months ago, and I couldn’t be happier with the results!
I know that starting this process is a big investment of both time and money, so you want to make sure you choose the right orthodontist. I definitely recommend Dr. Luu and his team! Everyone was always friendly,
the entire process was very smooth, and honestly, time flies!
Originally, my treatment plan was estimated to take 30 months, but because I followed all the instructions and wore my elastics properly, I was able to finish in just 20 months. The results are amazing, and I’m so happy with my experience.

I had a great experience at first impression orthodontics. My treatment wasn't straight forward and after shopping around, first impression orthodontics gave me the most streamlined options for my treatment. After almost three years I have finished my treatment!
I am very pleased with the treatment I have received at the clinic from the assistants and Dr. Luu. They did great work on getting my teeth, bite and smile corrected. They were very professional and communicated what they were working on during each visit. I would highly recommend this clinic if you are looking into orthodontic treatment!

We couldn’t be more happy with choosing First Impression Orthodontics for my teenage son’s braces. The staff were really supportive right from the beginning, they helped to stay on track for every visit, and we were so thankful for everyone’s care and attention during the process. Had a great experience with First Impression Orthodontics. It was my first experience with orthodontics, which was done to correct some bite issues that had worsened as an adult. Dr. Luu and the entire team were very welcoming and professional, with thorough check-ups, and they always answered any questions I had. The actual treatment length was also right in line with what they estimated at the beginning. Overall, a 5/5 experience.

I had my treatment done at Dr. Luu’s office for two years, and I’m extremely happy with my results.
Two of my friends had also come here for their treatment and highly recommended the office, which gave me the confidence to start my own journey. Having a crossbite and starting treatment a bit later in life, I initially felt discouraged and wasn’t sure I would achieve the results I wanted. However, Dr. Luu and the team were attentive, accommodating with my schedule, and supportive throughout the entire process.
Even after treatment, they continued with follow-up appointments to ensure everything was progressing smoothly. Their professionalism, care, and attention to detail made the entire experience a very positive one.

I just got my braces removed yesterday and wanted to leave a review. Before deciding to work with First Impression Orthodontics, I read many reviews and spoke with two real patients who had done their orthodontic treatment here. Trust me, I read all the reviews on Google and other platforms before choosing this office.
My dentist referred me to another orthodontic office, and I also visited a different dental clinic (since my dentist does not provide orthodontic treatment). I didn’t just compare time, price, and reviews. I also focused on the treatment plan, which I believe is very important. I didn’t want to regret removing teeth and end up unhappy with the result.
I was really impressed with my first visit to Dr. Luu’s office, and I understand why it’s called “First Impression Orthodontics.” Everything was very detailed, even though they didn’t know if I would choose to work with them when we first met. The first visit included a free consultation with full X-rays and a detailed treatment plan, which I didn’t see at other places. I carefully reviewed and compared all the treatment plans.
Dr. Luu gave me two options and recommended one that did not require extracting too many teeth, which I really appreciated.
After signing the contract, I truly enjoyed the whole treatment process. The doctor has several assistants, and he personally checked my progress and made adjustments each time. All the assistants are nice and friendly. I believe I was one of the more challenging patients since I broke my braces multiple times due to a missing tooth, but they were always patient, kind, and helpful.
Dr. Luu pays great attention to detail, and I’m very happy with the results. I especially want to mention Mia and Carey b/c they are super nice and friendly. The other assistants are also great, though I can’t remember all their names since I had different assistants helping me each time.

This orthodontic office was such a welcoming and comforting place!! The staff were always kind, gentle, and took the time to explain everything before doing anything, which made me feel at ease. I genuinely looked forward to my appointments and was sad when my treatment ended. I also love how my teeth look now. The doctor was incredibly kind and caring, and the entire office made every visit a positive experience.

My treatment was more complicated than most cases. I had gone to many different places before First Impression where they would emphasize surgery being the best and only option for me. Dr.Luu literally gave me my smile back with Invisalign. It was a long and complicated process but after 5 years my treatment is finished and I could not be any happier! I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Thank you Dr.Luu and staff for everything.

If you are planning to get your braces done, I HIGHLY recommend you going to First Impressions to get them done. Not only did they provide a free comprehensive consultation, Dr. Luu and his amazing staff (shout out to my girls Shona and Lulu) are extremely knowledgable and incredibly kind. They truly care for you and your smile. They provide you with many options and never pressure you into anything but instead share their recommendations. Additionally, they are quite affordable as affordable braces can be. All in all, I would give First Impressions my highest recommendation for anyone who may be considering getting braces or invisalign done!

Just finished my treatment, and I am beyond satisfied. Dr. Luu is really attentive and detailed, and I am happy that he took my concerns into consideration throughout the treatment. I just finished almost 3 years of braces treatment, I couldn't be happier with the results and my confident smile now! Dr.Luu was always enthusiastic and caring during the treatment, thank you very much Dr.Luu and FIO team for always caring and helping me to have a bright smile like now. everyone is so kind and friendly, every time I go to my follow-up appointment, they ask how my day was and if the braces are bothering me! I’ve been at this orthodontist since I was young and everything has been consistently great! The atmosphere at First Impression is very professional and welcoming. All the staff are friendly and seem genuinely passionate about their job. They ask about your day, make sure they’re not hurting you, and get the job done! The receptionist is also very kind and remembers you by name! Dr. Luu and his team were always kind and patient with me through my journey with braces, which wasn’t an easy job since I broke brackets like a thousand times and was probably Dr. Luu’s biggest headache😃. I was always provided information on any treatment, and was in full control of what happened to my teeth. My four-year plan was organized, went smoothly, and the end result was amazing. My teeth look great now, and I couldn’t be happier! P.S I promise to not lose my retainer again…

I definitely recommend Dr. Luu and his team if you want to correct your teeth. I am very satisfied with my smile and teeth and while the process was lengthy, it was worth it in the end. I feel more confident in smiling now thanks to them.
Meet Dr. Peter Luu
Dr. Luu was born in Vietnam and moved to Vancouver when he was 8 years old. Growing up in Vancouver, Dr. Luu attended Simon Fraser University for his undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree. Upon leaving Simon Fraser University, he completed his dental degree at the University of British Columbia and continued his education with another year of general practice residency at BC Children’s Hospital.
